Music Bio

I picked up my first bass guitar at 12 & I've not put it back down..

As a young musician, I listened to rock, inspired by Jamiroquai, & ultimately captivated by video game music basslines. (I understand you're thinking, "what a bizarre combination of bass influences...") 'Bass'ically, anything with a good, funky bass line & I was in! Sounds boring but all I did is practice and have fun with the instrument pretty much every day as a teenager (at this point, I didn't even consider being a professional musician).

Throughout my time, I've floated across essentially every genre possible. Several ensembles, original bands, function bands, theatre pits, & orchestras across the UK. From pubs & local venues, to performing in London Palladium & Queen Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp, Belgium; I just wanted to get involved in everything. I enjoyed how every new experience shaped me into a well-rounded musician.

Wasn't all music though, I was a restaurant manager for six years. Gig, work, gig, work, gig, work... One of them was going to go eventually, and now you're reading my bio, you can guess which route I eventually chosen. However, those six years were almost mandatory to shaping who I am today; via the harsh lessons learnt & interpersonal skills necessary to navigate life. â€‹

Self taught, to music college, & straight to studying Music at the University of Sheffield. This took my bass abilities to a new level under the mentorship of a Sheffield-based bassist called Danny Fox. Picked up my first double bass at 22, had 3 lessons with an incredible jazz bassist Nicola Farnon, and basically went for it! During this stage of my bass life, I was obsessed with Victor Wooten & all the extended techniques. I just found it memorising, even if it's non-traditional; purely a musical eye-opener. This stage in my musical journey as stuck with me more, I love taking the bass as a solo instrument. You never stop learning, I am still developing my skillset now, taking inspiration and unwritten lessons from other musicians.

â€‹As a musician, I am heavily influenced by fusion & progressive music, j-rock, j-pop, djent/modern death metal, VGM. Ultimately, I like everything but the latter are my favourites.

As a bass player, I am inspired by bassists such as a Henrik Linder, Ryosuke Nikamoto, Amos Williams, Michael League, & Victor Wooten. (I could go on)

My varied experiences is one of the main reasons why I want to teach as a professional musician. I did not have a traditional linear journey so if there's anything to take from this short bio of my musical journey; 'there is no right path'.
